On the 13th of February, 2013, the Consul General of Republic of Turkey in Kazan, Mr. Sabri Tunç Angili, and Commercial Attache, Anghin Baishar, visited Samara State University. The honored guests were welcomed by the SSU Rector, Prof. Igor Noskov, Vice-rector for science and research, Prof. Alexander Krutov, Vice-rector for academic affairs, Ass. Prof. Vitaliy Garkin, Vice-rector for legal and safety affairs, Vladimir Zhivtsov, and the Director of international relations and marketing centre, Vera Levicheva.
Mr. Sabri Tunç Angili took his office of Consulate General in September 2012. Mr Consul General started his first mission to Samara with visiting our university. Mr. Sabri Tunç Angili remarked that economic and commercial ties between Russia and Turkey are developing actively. Tatarstan plays an important role in this development, however, according to Mr. Consul, Samara region is also considered to be highly developed and attractive among Turkish companies and enterprises. Subsidiaries of the CJSC Credit Europe Bank, which belongs to the Turkish banking group FIBA Group, are now represented in Samara and Togliatti. Turkish corporation Orhan Holding A.Ş., which specializes in car components production, has shown its intention to establish diversified production of wide range of its items in special economic zone “Togliatti”.
Mr. Sabri Tunç Angili expressed his confidence that the revival of economic cooperation would facilitate the development of cultural, social and educational relations.
The Rector of SSU, Igor Noskov, acquainted honored guests with our university’s activity emphasizing scientific achievements, projects, and also international ties. During the discussion the parties talked about possible spheres of cooperation with Turkish universities, student and faculty exchange, conducting of joint researches, exchange of educational resources in particular. The Rector pointed out the benefits of such collaboration not only with Turkish universities, but also with Turkish production companies within small enterprises established by SSU (for example, small innovative enterprise “Modern engineering solutions"). Mr. Consul promised that he would provide SSU with all-round support in establishing cooperative relations with Turkish universities.
Honored guests paid special attention to discussing of cultural ties development. Mr. Consul mentioned signing of the intergovernmental agreement about the improvements of Russian burying places and monuments located in Turkey and Turkish depositions in Russia. Mr. Sabri Tunç Angili was informed that the depositions of Turkish war prisoners of WW I were located on the territory of Samara region. This historical fact became known in the end of 2010, when one of the Syzran regional ethnographer found out a message about mass epidemic of relapsing fever among Turkish war prisoners and their mass death in the newspaper of 1915 “Volzhskiye vesti”. Mr. Consul expressed his hope that these historical events could become the basis for joint research work of Turkish and Samara historians.
In the end of the meeting both parties showed their eagerness to develop academic, scientific and cultural cooperation.
