Most historians choose their scientific path under the influence of their natural and high-minded interest in the past. Therefore academicians understand young people who opt for historical sciences every year, and are sure that this stream is an ever-living source for interest to the past.
The Faculty of History of Samara State University is a community of scholars who are aimed to understand the past and endeavor to introduce students the process of historical thinking.
The Faculty of History originated in the faculty of Humanities (1969) of Samara State University, which was divided in 1976 into three faculties: Philology, Law and History.
Today the Faculty of History implements graduate training that ranges from the ancient world to the present, and offers the foundation for a broad-based education. It is one of the largest History faculties in the region with 6 Departments and 41 faculty members possessing doctorate and Ph.D. degrees:

The graduate majors of the Faculty of History are designed to provide students with advanced instruction and training in three blocks: social and economic, natural sciences and professional disciplines. Senior students choose specific field of studies within their specialization. Experienced supervisors guide students’ academic and scientific work. Theoretical training is strengthened during practical work: archeological, museum, archive and teaching practices.
A History degree is probably the most flexible and far-ranging. It is excellent preparation for a wide variety of fields – politics, teaching, education, public service, tourism, etc. Possessing a broad background of interests, analytical and verbal skills, our graduates are well-prepared to meet the challenges of a constantly changing world.

Matveev; the dean of SSU Faculty of Sociology, Dr. Viktor Y. Machnev; the dean of Pre-University Training Faculty, Vladimir I. Thus, our graduates get key positions in educational, political, and cultural institutions of Samara region.
