Housing
If you become a student of Samara State University and you are too far away from your house you can always count on housing in student residence. It is a convenient and affordable place to live in when you are a student. There are two halls of residence in operation at Samara State University.
Certainly, not all of the students can be housed in because this number of halls is not enough for the university with over 6000 students. At present the University works on preparation of the application for building a new residence hall with 400 places.
Direct distribution of places in residence hall and procedure of check-in (including the confirmation of list of students who would move in) are governed by SSU with the agreement of students’ trade-union organization and announced by an order of the Rector.
Decision of housing is reached by Dean of Faculty.
Students’ trade-union organization registers permanent records for SSU students queue.
Every full-time SSU student can apply for the place in the residence hall.
Students of the next categories are to be housed in the residence hall in the primary order:
Otherwise the decision of housing is made depending on the number of free places in a residence hall according to the next criteria:
For queuing a student should hand in:
Also a student can present other documents verifying his/her position according to any given criteria.
Housing of other criteria residents is carried out according to the decision of Vice-rector of legal and safety affairs with the agreement of Students’ trade-union organization.
As a rule, living-room is attached to a resident for the whole period of studying at SSU.
In case of expelling from Samara State University (including graduation) residents should vacate the room within three days starting from the day when expelling order is issued according with the concluded residential lease agreement.
To help students living in the residential hall Students’ trade-union organization with the support of University administration built its own autonomous body – Resident Students Association. This council is to improve residents’ housekeeping, coordinate activity of sections and storey monitors, involve residents to volunteer, help Hostel Administration and conduct cultural-mass work – simply saying, make students’ life comfortable and interesting. It is absolutely open council in work of which you can join. At any time one can come up with the offer of improving living conditions in hostel. Moreover, it is the chairman of Resident Students Association who makes it possible to cooperate with trade-union organization and University and Hostel Administration.
Another option of living in Samara is to rent an apartment with other SSU students, with your friends or on your own. You can always find ads about rent in local newspapers or find a real estate agent for help. Prices for rent depend on several factors. One of them is closeness to the city center. It will also depend on whether the apartment is furnished.
Dining
Samara State University has its own canteens and snack-bars. At the canteen you can take a soup (traditional Russian beet-root and cabbage soup) and for the second course - meat or fish and garnish: beefsteak, chop with mashed potatoes, pasta. In snack-bars you can find fresh-baked rolls, buns, cookies, chocolate, yoghurts, different salads, also coffee/tea/juices/water. All this is quite tasty and at affordable prices, about 100-200 RUB for substantial meal.
Near the University and the Residence Hall there are three places where you can have a meal.
Also you can have a meal in restaurants. Across the street in the mall “Mega City” there are two of them: “Planet of Sushi” with Japanese cuisine and “Danesi” with Italian one. Restaurants and cafes in Samara city are numerous. You can find them even on the ground floor of your house. Certainly, there are food-courts with Sbarro, KFC, Subway and other fast-foods. You can find them in every big shopping mall. It is the most favorite way of feeding among students. Fast, tasty and cheap dining.
If you don’t want to be out of shape we recommend you to cook yourself at home. You can buy necessary foodstuff at supermarkets. They are on every street corner. The biggest are:
Such supermarkets as “Magnit”, “Pokupochka”, “Pyaterochka”, “Karamel” are also popular. You can buy fresh fruit and vegetables at the food market every day.
